Nicholas Yager was a member of the 1717 Colony which settled in Culpeper
County,
Virginia 1717.
He was sued by Gov.Spotswood in 1724, because he wanted to be free
of being an
indentured servant.
He proved his importation May 2, 1727, stating he had come to this
country nine
years before with Capt Scott and brought his wife Mary and two children,
Adam
and Mary with him.
He patented 400 acres in June 24, 1726.
Adam Yager patented 400 acres June 10, 1737
Nicholas sold on July 14, 1737 to Adam Yager 200 acres.
In April 1738 Nicholas petitioned to be levy-free stating he was
sixty years of
age. From this we may place his birth at 1678.
October 4, 1745 Nicholas Yager and Andrew Garr were appointed executors
of the
will of W. Carpenter.
April 6, 1764 Susannah Yager, a widow of Nicholas Yager sold a negro
girl to
Nicholas Criglar. One the same day Susanna also sold a negro man
to Christopher
Creagler.
Hence Nicholas married twice, maybe three times, Susannah being second
or third.
She is reguarded as being the widow of Jacob Creagler who died 1734.
Nothing has
been found about daughter Mary. Adam is listed as only son.
Adam born September 29, 1707, married October 17, 1727 to Susannah Cobler or Kobler.
Adam and Susannah sold to Frederick Cobler 290 acres November 15, 1736.
On September 18, 1766, they sold to Adam Garr 100 acres. This is
the last record
of Susannah. On the Communion Roll Adam appears without a wife from
1775 to 24th
Sunday after Trinity about November 1793.
Adam's will dated September 9, 1793 was probated January 22, 1794.
In it he
mentions sons, Michael, John, Adam, Godfrey and grandchildren, the
heirs of son
Nicholas Y. deceased. Grandchildren heirs of Peter Clore begotten
by my daughter
Barbara; children of my deceased granddaughter, Elizabeth Wayman
daughter of Peter
and Barbara Clore; grandsons Adam Clore and Benjamin Yager; daughter
of Barbara
Chelf. He appointed his four living sons as exectors.
Seems by this daughter Barbara was married twice, to Peter Clore
and Philip Chelf.
Barbara born September 7, 1730 died about 1794. She had six children
by Peter Clore.
Proably had by Philip Chelf; Isaac, Elias, and Catherine.
Adam's son John "blind John", lived to be 101 years old. He had a
large family.
