Big Universe: A World of
Online Children's Books
This
interesting Web site that allows children to read online versions of
books – some in different languages. This site offers fiction and
non-fiction titles. There is an option to buy but you don't have to,
and there are a lot of FREE and interesting things to do that look
like fun – like create your own book which others can read.
Pronouncing
Authors' Names
This month we direct you to
two websites to help you learn to pronounce the names of authors whose
names are not Smith or Jones or Brown. Do you know how to
pronounce Louis Auchincloss? K. A. Gjellerup? Ivan Turgenev?
Visit Pronouncing
Authors' Names for some info.
Another
site---Teaching
Books.com--actually plays a recording of the author pronouncing
his/her name, and often giving some other introductory material.

Watch Old TV Series and Movies--Free
This
is a website that, for the most part, has old television shows which can
be viewed in their entirety. There are also some newer shows like the
current week of The Tonight Show & Conan. Also, some shows just have
clips (not the full episode). For example, you can watch full episodes
of McHale's Navy, Lost in Space, Fantasy Island, Dragnet, Land of the
Giants, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, WKRP in Cincinnati, Time
Tunnel, The Tick (the live action version ) etc. There is also an
area that shows full movies and clips from movies. Wish I'd
found this during the writers strike!
