Bell County Craftspersons

The Bell Co. Public Library System has been awarded a federal LSTA programming grant to revive the S.O.S. program developed by the County Extension Service in the 1980s.  S.O.S. (Sharing Our Selves) is a series of free workshops –taught by volunteers either in their homes or a public or church meeting facilities—on a variety of topics, such as quilting, cooking, gardening, photography, writing, marketing, etc.

Program Coordinator Ron Day explains that the purpose of the new S.O.S. series is to provide instruction in areas that might be helpful for supplementing family income.  “If you can learn to make baskets, cater, grow better tomatoes, or paint, you might be able to parlay those skills into a second—or first!—income. There will also be workshops on marketing skills and products so that once you’d made something, you’ll better know how to sell it.”

Display Space Available

Bell County artists, crafts persons and artisans are invited to use display space in the libraries to promote their wares.  No items can be sold by library staff, but a locked display case is available where you can show your quilts, pottery, knitted works, paintings, etc., along with a card with contact information.

If you would like to schedule a display case for a one-month period, call Kathy at 248-4812 or Ron at 337-3422.
