Bell County Craftspersons
The Bell Co. Public Library System has been awarded a federal
LSTA programming grant to revive the S.O.S. program developed by the
County Extension Service in the 1980s. S.O.S. (Sharing Our Selves) is a
series of free workshops –taught by volunteers either in their homes or
a public or church meeting facilities—on a variety of topics, such as
quilting, cooking, gardening, photography, writing, marketing, etc.
Program Coordinator Ron Day explains
that the purpose of the new S.O.S. series is
to provide instruction in areas that might be helpful for supplementing
family income. “If you can learn to make baskets, cater, grow better
tomatoes, or paint, you might be able to parlay those skills into a
second—or first!—income. There will also be workshops on marketing
skills and products so that once you’d made
something, you’ll better know how to sell it.”
